Teen from Grosse Pointe sentenced for deadly crash that claimed life of 18-year-old passenger
A teenager from Grosse Pointe has been given a sentence following a fatal crash in 2023 that resulted in the death of Flynn Mackrell. The 17-year-old, Kiernan Tague, received a sentence ranging from 19 to 38 months, with the possibility of being placed in a residential facility due to the incident. Tague was also put on probation, but risks serving the aforementioned period if he violates the probation terms. The crash occurred when Tague, who was 16 at the time, was driving at 105 miles per hour in an area with a speed limit of 25 mph, eventually crashing into a utility pole and tree. Tague pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a motor vehicle and had also faced charges of second-degree murder. Despite a request from Mackrell's mother and previous concerns from Tague's mother about his driving behavior, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office decided not to charge Tague's mother. Tague was caught on video driving at nearly 140 miles per hour, and the prosecutor highlighted the importance of following speed limits to avoid tragic accidents. Presently, Tague is in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility awaiting placement in a Level 2 facility.
