Teen from Green Bay arrested after chase, multiple vehicle collision, and fires in Fond du Lac

A police pursuit culminated in a dramatic incident in downtown Fond Du Lac where two vehicles caught fire, seven others were damaged, and three individuals sustained injuries. The escapade initiated when a 19-year-old suspect drove recklessly on the wrong side of the road in downtown Fond Du Lac on Friday evening. Authorities from the Fond Du Lac County Sheriff's Office spotted the teen driving at over 50 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone and initiated a pursuit. The chase escalated as the suspect accelerated to over 80 miles per hour, prompting concerns of public safety. As the chase approached the busy downtown area, law enforcement decided to terminate the pursuit, hoping the suspect would slow down. Unfortunately, the driver continued at high speeds, leading to a series of collisions with several vehicles. After crashing into multiple cars, the fleeing vehicle came to a halt at Main St. and Merrill Ave, with both it and another vehicle catching fire. The suspect safely exited the car and surrendered to authorities, eventually being taken to a local hospital for treatment. Three other individuals were also treated at the scene for minor injuries. The suspect, known for prior criminal activities, faces numerous charges including operating while intoxicated causing injury, reckless endangerment, and several counts of bail jumping. Authorities are exploring the possibility of additional charges related to the discovery of marijuana in the suspect's vehicle. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt expressed gratitude that no fatalities occurred and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.
