Teen Drivers Safety Week
National Teen Driver Safety Week, which began on October 19th, is a campaign that emphasizes the importance of safe driving behaviors for young drivers who are at a higher risk of accidents. Due to their lack of experience and susceptibility to distractions, new drivers are more prone to crashes. According to OSP Sgt. Tyler Ross, in the past five years, there were 6,500 fatal crashes involving teens, with teens being at fault for 64% of these incidents. To address this issue, parents are encouraged to establish clear driving expectations with their teens through a contract. During this safety week, Ohio is reminding parents that teen drivers are only allowed one non-family passenger and cannot drive between midnight and 6 a.m. For those in need of scholarships or resources for driver's education programs, Greene County’s “Drive to Succeed” program can be contacted at 374-5600.
