Teen driver in fatal Mason Alexander crash moved to adult court

A judge in Hamilton County has approved a request to move a teenager to adult court for his role in a fatal car crash that took the life of Mason Alexander, a recent graduate from Hamilton Southeastern High School and a future University of Pittsburgh football player. The teen is facing charges including reckless homicide, reckless driving, and possession of fake identification. The tragic incident occurred when the teenager, driving a white 2016 BMW, tried to overtake another vehicle on Florida Road near Geist Park on March 1. The car lost control, hit a tree, and burst into flames, resulting in Alexander's passing. Witnesses labeled the driving maneuver as reckless, comparing it to actions seen in the "Indy 500" race. Law enforcement revealed that the car was speeding at 56 mph in a 35 mph zone, and also discovered three false IDs in the suspect's vehicle. Since the accident, the Alexander family and the local community have been vocal in demanding justice for Mason, with numerous individuals attending memorial events for him, often sporting "Forever 15" shirts as a tribute. A court hearing for the defendant is scheduled for June 2, during which the case will continue in adult court.
