EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- A 15-year-old girl is dead following a crash that happened in East El Paso earlier this week, according to the El Paso Police Department. As KTSM previously reported, the two-vehicle crash happened after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, on Interstate 10 after Lee Trevino. The Special Traffic Investigators unit was called to investigate. Preliminary information revealed that an SUV was traveling east on I-10 when a Mustang, who was also traveling east, rear-ended the SUV "at a high-rate of speed," according to EPPD. As a result, 15-year-old Sophia Elize Ramirez was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. There were four other people in the SUV with Ramirez, including the 33-year-old driver, a 36-year-old woman, a one-year-old boy and a baby girl. On Thursday, March 19, the STI was notified by the Medical Examiner's Office that Ramirez had died as a result of the crash. As of reporting, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
