Teen dies following Petaluma police pursuit resulting in rollover accident
A tragic incident occurred in Petaluma on Saturday night, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy and injuries to three other teenagers during a police pursuit involving a suspected drunk driver. The event unfolded when law enforcement received a report of an intoxicated driver at a gas station on Lakeville Highway. Despite officers' attempts to stop the driver of a black Kia Soul for erratic driving, a chase ensued, ultimately ending in a crash near Old Lakeville Road No. 1. The four occupants, all teen boys, were ejected from the vehicle during the accident. The driver, a 17-year-old, and two passengers aged 15 and 16 suffered major injuries but are now in stable condition. The 17-year-old driver was arrested for various charges, including vehicular manslaughter, evading police, and driving under the influence. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Marin County, where the teens reside. Further investigation will focus on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the crash and whether seat belts were worn by the occupants.
