Teen charged after crash kills 91-year-old in Amherst County

The Virginia State Police are currently looking into a tragic accident that occurred on Thursday, June 19 at around 2:30 p.m. in Amherst County at the crossroads of Route 130 and the Route 29 exit ramp. According to reports, a 2017 Nissan Rogue traveling east on Amelon Expressway was struck by a 2024 Lexus RX that did not give way at a stop sign. The Rogue veered off the road and into the trees, resulting in the passing of 91-year-old Deion I. Taliaferro from Madison Heights, Va., who was driving the Rogue and had been wearing her seatbelt. The other driver, Abdulaziz H. Elmawri, a 17-year-old from El Paso, Texas operating the Lexus, was unharmed and properly restrained. Elmawri has been charged with failure to yield, as stated by VSP, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
