Technological advancements post fatal crash
Two years ago, a tragic chain reaction collision on I-70 in Licking County involving a semi-truck and a charter bus carrying students from Tuscarawas Valley High School resulted in the loss of six lives and numerous injuries. NBC4 recently interviewed the family of Shannon Wigfield, one of the victims. Shannon's son, Evan, shared his anguish at losing not only friends and mentors but also his mother in the devastating accident. The crash occurred on November 14, 2023, as Evan was on the bus for a band performance, with his mother following as a chaperone. Shannon's husband, Rick, and their three children were left to grieve her passing. Reflecting on his mother's presence, Evan praised her selflessness and dedication to her children's well-being. Despite initial feelings of anger and sorrow, he now seeks to honor Shannon's memory by excelling academically. Meanwhile, Rick navigates his own grief while supporting his family and advocating for measures to prevent similar tragedies like the bus crash. Notably, a new tool named VIJILIS, likened to an "Uber for towing," is in development to improve response times for accidents. This innovative software, a collaboration between the Fraternal Order of Police and the University of Arizona, will soon be incorporated into the national law enforcement system. Learn more about VIJILIS and its potential impact.
