Suspected DUI in Fatal Monterey County Collision injuring 5

The California Highway Patrol is currently looking into a tragic collision that took place on Sunday evening. According to initial reports, a red pickup truck, carrying one person, crashed head-on into a silver Nissan SUV with five occupants. The incident occurred on Old Stage Road just north of Natividad Road around 7:56 p.m. Unfortunately, the driver of the Nissan, a 47-year-old from Salinas, was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash. The four other individuals in the SUV suffered injuries ranging from moderate to severe, with one passenger being airlifted to San Jose for treatment. Their ages varied between 10 and 42. The driver of the pickup truck, a 29-year-old from Watsonville, sustained minor injuries. Everyone involved in the crash was taken to a nearby hospital, and their current conditions are unknown. There is suspicion that the pickup driver may have been driving under the influence, although no arrests have been made as of now. The investigation is still in progress, and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office will release the identity of the deceased driver once the next of kin have been notified.
