Suspect pursuit in McDuffie County ends in fatal crash

UPDATE, 1:05 P.M. - According to Georgia State Patrol, Motor Carrier Compliance Division Officers were assisting Richmond and McDuffie County Sheriffs’ Offices with a warrant service on Thursday, April 24. Authorities state that they observed a blue Chevrolet Silverado with mud tires that matched a description given by the local agencies related to the warrant. According to GSP, at 9:41 a.m., MCCD Officers radioed that the driver of the truck had initiated a pursuit when the MCCD Officer attempted to stop the truck, and during the pursuit, one MCCD Officer crashed, and his vehicle overturned. Authorities say that officer was not injured. Local agencies continued the pursuit after that crash, and the driver of the truck later crashed into another vehicle, and the fleeing vehicle caught on fire. According to investigators, the driver of the fleeing vehicle was pronounced dead on scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that the driver was a suspect regarding an ongoing homicide investigation into the death of Mario Clemons. When authorities went to search his home this morning, he took off.  The driver has been identified by McDuffie County Coroner Paul Johnson as 43-year-old Devicco 'Troy' Moss of Thomson. Moss’s body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab, where an autopsy will be performed. The homicide investigation regarding Mario Clemons is still ongoing. (WJBF) - Traffic is moving slowly after an SUV flipped off the roadway in McDuffie County. The crash happened on the 2200 of Washington Road behind Dudley Nursery in Thomson. NewsChannel 6 has learned the wreck involved some type of law enforcement vehicle. No word on injuries. Mcduffie County Deputies along with the coroner are on the scene of another accident on Washington road near Ridge Road  All lanes are blocked and injuries are reported.
