Suspect detained for crashing into two residences on Eastern Avenue, Springfield

Over the weekend in Springfield, a car collided into two residences on Eastern Avenue, resulting in injuries to the driver who was subsequently taken into custody on various charges including armed carjacking. Fire officials were summoned to the scene after a vehicle crashed into one of the houses around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the occupant of the car managing to free themselves and sustain minor injuries. The driver was then transported to Baystate Medical Center for treatment. The Springfield Police Department announced on Monday that the individual arrested in connection to the incident was 18-year-old Malachi Williams. The police report details how officers were initially informed of an armed carjacking near Elliot Street and Salem Street before discovering the car had later crashed into the homes on Eastern Avenue. Recovered at the scene was a large capacity Ghost Gun, modified to function as a fully automatic machine gun. The crash led to significant structural damage to the properties, rendering the front wooden porch and patio of one residence unusable. Local community members swiftly came together to assist during the aftermath of the collision, providing aid and support to those affected. Homeowner Teresa Williams expressed gratitude for the immediate community response and is currently working with her insurance provider to address the safety hazards resulting from the crash.
