Suspect arrested for two separate fatal hit-and-run incidents in Long Beach
The Long Beach police have announced the arrest of a 24-year-old woman suspected of being involved in two hit-and-run incidents that occurred five months apart, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals. Ahkeyajahnique Owens, a resident of Long Beach, surrendered herself at the Long Beach Police Department on January 7. Authorities were able to identify Owens as the suspect in both collisions through the use of forensic evidence and video footage. The initial collision led to the death of a 35-year-old bicyclist on October 6, 2025, at the intersection of East 4th Street and Bonito Avenue. In the second collision, which involved another vehicle, two individuals lost their lives and three others were injured. The deceased were identified as Gilberto Lopez, a 21-year-old from Midway City, and Bobbi Smith, a 24-year-old from Buena Park. Owens has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter in connection to the October 2025 incident, while separate charges related to the January 4, 2026, incident will be brought forth to the District Attorney's Office in the upcoming week.
