Survivors of Brazil hot air balloon crash: 13 escape fire that claimed 8 lives; accident cause investigated
A tragic incident occurred in Brazil's Santa Catarina state when a hot-air balloon caught fire and crashed, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals. Videos circulating on social media captured the harrowing scene as the balloon plummeted towards the ground in Praia Grande. Fortunately, 13 passengers were able to survive the crash by following the pilot's instructions to jump out of the basket before impact. The pilot recounted that a fire erupted inside the basket, prompting him to lower the balloon and issue the evacuation order. In total, 21 people, including the pilot, were onboard during the accident, which transpired around 8 AM local time. Officials have indicated that weather conditions, including strong winds and a suspected gas leak, likely contributed to the tragic event.
