Surveillance footage: 79-year-old cyclist killed in collision with Martin County deputy
The Martin County Sheriff's Office recently released video footage capturing a fatal collision between a deputy and a bicyclist. Tragically, the cyclist lost his life in the incident. Sheriff John Budensiek indicated that the deputy, Joshua Pease, was following department protocols and procedures while responding to a call and had the right of way at the time of the accident. The footage showed the deputy's speed was around 51 mph in a 45 mph zone, but Sheriff Budensiek highlighted that he maintained control of his vehicle and attempted to avoid the crash. The victim, John Mullins, was described as a cautious cyclist who rode through the area daily. Despite an attorney representing the victim's family expressing the need for more information, Sheriff Budensiek stated that they were not willing to settle. Deputy Pease, who has been with the agency for about 16 months, has resumed his duties following the incident.
