Surfing legend's grandson dies in e-bike accident
The grandson of a well-known Southern California surfboard shaper passed away this week following a serious e-bike accident. Kolby Aipa, a 20-year-old resident of Huntington Beach, tragically lost his life on Tuesday. According to Corbin Carson, a spokesperson for the city Police Department, Aipa was being pulled by a car on Pacific Coast Highway on Saturday evening when he lost control of his e-bike and was struck by the same car. Aipa, whose grandfather Ben Aipa was a legendary surfer and surfboard innovator, had been on life support but succumbed to his injuries. The Aipa family, who own the surf company Aipa Surf, expressed their deep gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received from the community. The accident took place late Saturday night near Seapoint Street and Pacific Coast Highway. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by the Pai family, who own Huntington Surf and Sport, to assist the Aipa family.
