Superintendent’s son injured in fatal Bay County crash

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) - More details have come to light regarding Thursday afternoon's multi-vehicle crash on Highway 231 that killed two people and injured four. It was confirmed to News13 that one of the four people injured was John Norton, the youngest son of Gulf District Schools Superintendent and District 2 Congressional Candidate Jim Norton. In a statement, Gulf District Schools said that John and a few of his friends were traveling back to Fairhope for a fishing trip. All occupants in John's vehicle were injured but survived and are expected to make a full recovery. However, the occupants in the other car died. "We ask that you please keep the family friend and John and his buddies in your prayers for a full and speedy recovery.  We also ask that you please pray for the family and friends of the two people in the other vehicle that did not survive," Executive Assistant to the Superintendent Mary Lou Cumbie said in the statement. "The volume of calls and texts has grown exponentially, and I was just afraid that we would miss returning someone’s call or text.  Please know that Jim and Erika and the boys appreciate your love, concern, and prayers," Cumbie continued. News13 will continue to provide updates as they become available.
