Students request safety improvements for road after fatal pedestrian accident

At a recent CCSD Board of Trustees meeting, members of the Arbor View High School community gathered to advocate for change in honor of McKenzie Scott, a senior who tragically lost her life in a suspected DUI incident. Several former classmates of Scott spoke passionately about the need for improved safety measures, with Arbor View students emphasizing the importance of taking meaningful action to prevent further tragedies like this one. They expressed a strong sense of urgency to ensure that Scott's death does not go unnoticed. Students, including Kensey Stevens and Brayden Boulter, called for enhancements to roadway safety near the school, such as lowering speed limits, installing pedestrian lights, and adding speed bumps. The community is rallying together to address this pressing issue, with Stevens planning to create a public service announcement on crosswalk safety. While the CCSD board alone cannot enact all the changes sought by the community, students are seeking their support as they collaborate with the City of Las Vegas and Clark County on implementing new safety measures. In response, the city has committed to conducting a traffic study in the area and exploring additional safety initiatives. The Arbor View High School community remains dedicated to advocating for safer roads and honoring the memory of McKenzie Scott.
