Student honored for bravery after Randolph County school bus accident
HARMAN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Randolph County Sheriff's Office is honoring one student for her bravery after a school bus accident in December. According to a release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, on Dec. 17th, 2025, a school bus was involved in an accident after being hit by another vehicle near Harman. It was right after the crash that Harman School student Lily Roy stepped up. "During this frightening and uncertain moment, Lily, one of the older students on the bus, demonstrated remarkable courage, maturity, and compassion," the release said. "She immediately stepped up to help comfort younger students, working to keep them calm and reassured during a traumatic experience." On Feb. 10th, Randolph County Sheriff Robert Elbon Jr., Prevention Resource Officer Sgt. Danny Pennington and Deputy Rocky Hebb presented Lily with a Certificate of Recognition. "The Randolph County Sheriff's Office commends Lily Roy for a job exceptionally well done," the release continues. "She is a shining example of leadership and compassion, and we are proud to recognize her for her remarkable character and bravery." Lily was also given two challenge coins as a symbol of appreciation.
