State attorney's office announces new arrest in deadly Volusia County hit-and-run crash

State Attorney R.J. Larizza's office announced a new arrest connected to a deadly hit-and-run crash in Volusia County.Alisa Lee Montalvo was arrested Friday on nine charges, including three counts of vehicular homicide, three counts of leaving the scene of a crash with death, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, reckless driving and tampering with evidence.This arrest comes one day after charges were dropped against a 23-year-old Ocala woman arrested last month for the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol says that, back in October, Montalvo is accused of changing lanes on Interstate 4 and crashing her Dodge Durango into a Ford Focus before leaving the scene, allegedly causing a chain-reaction crash that killed a motorcyclist and the driver and passenger of a Honda Pilot.The Durango was later found unattended in a parking lot, according to the FHP.The motorcyclist, as well as Flagler County Deputy Administrator Jorge Salinas and his wife, Nancy, died.Montalvo is being held on no bond at the Volusia County jail.The Ocala woman's attorney, Patrick J McGeehan, held a news conference Saturday in DeLand, where he was critical of FHP while crediting the state attorney's office for a "spectacular job.""In this accident the FHP investigated, they waited six months to make an arrest," he said. "That in itself is not unusual, it does happen in those timeframes, but what is strange in this case is FHP decided to make their arrest after we sued them for return of (my client's) car. We got the arrest information in the disclosures from the highway patrol and as you may see in the filings we did in this case, we very strongly objected and fought back against what the FHP said."McGeehan added that while there is nothing criminal pending against his client, she was still being sued "because of the allegations of the FHP.""FHP said that they had evidence on the vehicle, damage on the vehicle, that was consistent with how this crash happened, how this violent, chaotic, magnanimous crash happened. You've seen the pictures — I sent out pictures with the press release — this is a 2025 Dodge Durango that is black and it is absolutely immaculate as it was the day she drove it off the showroom floor. There was absolutely no damage to (my client's) vehicle," he said. "She has a civil case from the estates of the deceased that was filed when FHP started their investigation. (...) From my understanding, it was because of the information that the FHP released in their accident report."WESH 2 News is presently not naming the Ocala woman because she does not face criminal charges.
