Staffer, other driver injured after crash causes school bus to roll
GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A school staff member and another driver where hospitalized after a crash that caused a school bus to tip over on the East Beltline in metro Grand Rapids Wednesday morning. It happened just after 8 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Beltline at Bradford Street, just north of I-96. A News 8 crew at the scene saw the Thornapple Kellogg Schools bus on its side with the rear emergency exit door open. Nearby, a group of four or five people sat on the grass in the median. A tow truck was hauling away a black sedan. The Kent County Sheriff's Office says its initial investigation found the bus was turning north onto the Beltline from westbound Bradford when a northbound sedan hit the left rear of the bus, causing it to roll. The sheriff's office said one of the staff members on the bus lost consciousness just after the crash and was hospitalized with a head injury. The driver of the sedan also sustained a head injury and minor cuts and was taken to the hospital. There were a total of three staff members and four students on the bus. None of the students were seriously injured, deputies said. The northbound Beltline was initially completely shut down before one lane reopened to traffic. Emergency crews cleared the scene around 10 a.m.
