St. Louis man sentenced in deadly shooting that followed car crash

ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis man was sentenced to decades behind bars in connection with the shooting death of a man following a car crash in 2020. On Friday, a judge sentenced Jynell Luss, 24, to 20 years in prison over the death of Adam Martin, who was killed at the age of 20. Martin was fatally shot on July 18, 2020, near the intersection of Page and Goodfellow boulevards in St. Louis' Hamilton Heights neighborhood. Prosecutors say the charges stem from a vehicle collision near that area. Luss was driving a stolen car with three others when he crashed into Martin's vehicle. After the crash, Luss instructed Martin to follow him to a nearby alley. Moments later, Martin was fatally shot. Luss previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges. He was sentenced to 20 years on the murder charge and three years for armed criminal action. Both sentences will run concurrently. "This senseless act of violence following a car accident resulted in the tragic loss of life. Today'ssentence reflects our office’s commitment to aggressively prosecuting gun violence,” said St.Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore via a news release. According to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, Luss had a prior conviction in 2019 for firearm theft, tampering with a motor vehicle, assault, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident.
