SS Badger Ferry to restart operations following dock collision in Ludington Harbor
The SS Badger ferry has resumed service after a mishap during docking on Wednesday evening damaged one of its stern sea gates. The incident occurred as the vessel was attempting to dock in Ludington Harbor and made contact with its sister ship, the SS Spartan. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among passengers or crew members. Marine engineers are assessing the damage, and repairs will be completed to ensure the ferry's safe operation. Lake Michigan Carferry spokesperson Thom Hawley expressed gratitude for the incident's lack of harm, emphasizing the company's commitment to passenger and crew safety. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to implement preventive measures. The SS Badger, known as one of the last coal-fired steamships in the U.S., resumed its daily service route between Ludington, Michigan, and Manitowoc, Wisconsin, starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18.
