
Springfield Baskin-Robbins accident prompts road closure notice.
Update at 3 p.m. SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - A vehicle crashed into a Baskin-Robbins in Springfield on Tuesday, resulting in a temporary road closure at the intersection of S MacArthur Blvd. and W Laurel St. The City of Springfield Public Works Department announced this closure at around 2:53 p.m. The closure affects both eastbound and westbound traffic on Laurel St. from MacArthur Blvd. to the east alley, with drivers advised to find alternative routes and use caution in the vicinity. The closed section will remain off-limits until officials conclude the investigation and deem it safe to reopen. As per the Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37, the incident led to the collapse of a significant part of the ice cream shop. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among those inside the Baskin-Robbins or the neighboring establishments. The vehicle occupants involved in the crash were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, with no updates available from the Springfield Police Department at this time. Building and Zoning will assess the structural integrity of the affected building, and residents are urged to stay alert while approaching the area.
