Speeding Driver Crashes Close to Sky Harbor at 120 MPH
Early Sunday morning, near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, a man suspected of speeding at over 120 miles per hour and driving under the influence crashed his car, then attempted to flee despite being handcuffed. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office reported the incident occurred around 1 a.m. near Loop 202 and Priest Drive, when a deputy noticed the speeding vehicle but decided to halt the pursuit as it headed towards the airport. The car eventually crashed near Terminal 3, resulting in the vehicle rolling multiple times and catching fire. The deputy immediately rushed to assist the three individuals inside, extinguish the fire, and aid the injured passengers. Meanwhile, the driver, Ivan Correa, escaped on foot while still restrained in handcuffs, with one passenger also fleeing the scene. However, all three were later located and detained by authorities. Correa and one passenger were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The Sheriff's Office is currently investigating Correa for DUI, and charges are pending the results of tests conducted.
