Speed a possible factor in deadly I-20 collision in Abilene
A fatal collision occurred on eastbound Interstate 20 in Abilene, Texas, on September 10, 2025, when a Toyota Camry driven by Bryan Newsom, 41, of Weatherford, crashed into a box truck, resulting in Newsom's death at the scene. The crash, which involved a 2018 Freightliner box truck driven by Khua Ling, 56, of Dallas, and Newsom's 2016 Toyota Camry, occurred in the outside lane with the Toyota rear-ending the truck. Witnesses reported that the Toyota was traveling at high speed before the collision, pushing the truck a significant distance. Speed is suspected to have been a contributing factor, and investigations are ongoing to determine if other factors such as intoxication or distractions were involved. The Traffic Division will continue to investigate the incident, and Newsom's next of kin has been informed of the tragic event.
