South Freeway express lanes near Morningside Dr. in Fort Worth closed due to wrong-way collision.
Early Monday morning, a driver going the wrong way on the South Freeway crashed into three vehicles, including a city-owned vehicle and two semi-trucks. The collision caused injuries and forced authorities to close the express lanes for an indefinite period. The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. near South Freeway and East Morningside Drive. According to police, the driver was heading northbound in the southbound lanes and was pinned beneath one of the semi-trucks after the accident. Emergency responders had to rescue the driver, who was then transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Another semi-truck driver was also hospitalized with minor injuries. As of Monday morning, the southbound express lanes of the freeway south of Meacham Boulevard remained shut down, with no specific timeline provided for reopening. Investigators suspect alcohol played a role in the crash and a traffic detective is leading the investigation.
