Small town devastated by tragic plane crash
A tragic incident occurred late Saturday night when a private aircraft traveling from San Carlos Airport to Monterey crashed into the ocean, resulting in the loss of all three passengers on board. The crash took place near Sunset Drive and Jewell Avenue in Pacific Grove. One witness, Heather Wilson, reported hearing what she thought was the engine failing before the crash. The U.S. Coast Guard recovered the victims between 3:00 and 9:00 a.m. Sunday, with one found in the water and the other two inside the aircraft. The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Steve Clatterbuck of Salinas, 36-year-old James Vincent, and 44-year-old Jamie Tabscott, both of Monterey. Ben Shipnuck expressed sadness at the loss, emphasizing the impact on the local community. Flight tracking data revealed that the plane departed from San Carlos Airport and crashed 30 minutes later after neighbors reported hearing its low sound. Various agencies, including the Coast Guard, local law enforcement, and firefighting departments, responded to the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation into the incident.
