Skydiver from Metro Atlanta dies in midair crash in Upson County

A woman from metro Atlanta, Jasmine Black, tragically passed away last weekend in a midair collision during a skydiving excursion in Upson County. She was engaged in her 163rd skydive when she collided with another parachutist at about 800 feet above the Thomaston-Upson County Airport. Despite efforts to deploy her reserve parachute, the crash happened too close to the ground for her to survive. The Federal Aviation Administration is collaborating with local authorities to investigate the incident, which took place on a Saturday afternoon. Black, who was laid to rest the following Friday in Griffin, was described by her son as a spirited individual with a love for adventure, despite her responsibilities as a parent and a member of the Bahá'í Faith. Her son shared that she would not want anyone to be afraid of skydiving due to her unfortunate accident, as she believed it was a thrilling and enjoyable activity.
