
Sheriff's Office captain from Spartanburg County dies in head-on collision, according to coroner
A Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office captain tragically passed away in a head-on collision in Oconee County, S.C. The Oconee County Coroner's Office confirmed the victim as Captain Steven Paul Henderson, who had served for over 19 years in various roles at the agency. Before his law enforcement career, Henderson was in the United States Air Force, earning accolades such as the Medal of Valor and K-9 Handler of the Year for five years. The accident occurred on Highway 183, where Henderson, riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson, collided with a Chevrolet SUV. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver was hospitalized for injuries, with their condition currently unknown. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office will provide updates on ways to support Henderson's family and honor his memory as more information becomes available.
