
Sheriff's Deputies React to Deadly Accident on West Chapel Road
Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office were called to a severe traffic accident on Saturday evening at 27200 West Chapel Road. A vehicle had struck various objects including a utility pole, a tree, and a residence. The vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, was speeding westbound on West Chapel Road and after cresting a hill, it went airborne and caused damage upon landing. It then hit a utility pole, went through a grassy area, collided with a tree, became airborne again, and eventually struck a residence. Sadly, both occupants of the vehicle, identified as Robert William Leo Dunham, 49, of Oldenburg, and Jesse E. Brummett Jr., 51, of Sunman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol was found at the accident site, and further toxicology testing is underway. The incident is believed to have been primarily caused by excessive speed. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
