Sheriff Investigates Fatal Crash, Victim's Identity Confirmed
The Coles County Sheriff's Department is looking into a fatal accident that occurred last week in Illinois. The incident took place late in the evening on July 23 on Old State Road near County Road 400 East. Authorities were called to the scene after a 2014 Ford SUV collided with a man riding a mini bike. The individual on the mini bike, identified as Earon Criswell, 35, from Mattoon, was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana but sadly succumbed to his injuries two days later. The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation by the sheriff's department, with support from several local law enforcement and emergency response teams including Mattoon Police, Lake Land College Police, Mitchell Jerdan EMS, Mattoon Fire Department, Coles-Moultrie 911, and the Air Evac Life Team.
