
Several deaths in tour bus crash closes New York Thruway in Pembroke
Multiple casualties, injuries, and individuals trapped were reported by New York State Police spokesman James O'Callahan after a tour bus accident on Interstate 90 in western New York. The bus, carrying 51 passengers, including children, overturned while traveling at high speed, causing windows to shatter and occupants to be ejected. The driver survived the crash, which occurred near the Pembroke exit on the New York Thruway. O'Callahan mentioned that the bus was returning from Niagra Falls to New York City with tourists from China, India, and the Philippines. Medical facilities like Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) in Buffalo received numerous injured passengers, some of whom required surgery for internal injuries, fractures, and head injuries. Helicopters from Mercy Flight and other services were deployed to transport patients to hospitals, with multiple agencies involved in the response effort.
