Serious injuries in east Wichita collision
A man in critical condition was shot while driving on Edgemoor Street in Wichita, near Murdock Street, close to Edgemoor Park, according to Wichita police. The incident occurred around 7 p.m., prompting emergency crews to respond to a reported vehicle crash. One person at the scene had suspected critical injuries among the five individuals in the crashed vehicle. Following the crash, four individuals fled into the nearby park and neighborhood, with three being apprehended, and one still remaining at large. The crash transpired during a police pursuit of the vehicle after unverified information indicated potential violence in the area. Wichita Police spokesperson Andrew Ford explained that the pursuit ended with a minor crash at 8th and Edgemoor Streets, with only minor injuries sustained by the second vehicle's driver. The passengers of the pursued vehicle absconded at the crash site, while the injured driver was discovered with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Search efforts including a helicopter, drones, and a K-9 have been carried out by authorities, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, as the suspect, described as a teen male, remains at large. Despite no indication of danger to the public, caution is advised, and sightings of anyone acting suspicious should be reported to 911. Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan expressed concern over juvenile firearm access, linking the incident to a previous homicide and underscoring the proactive approach taken by law enforcement in such cases.
