A serious accident occurred on Chester Pike in Delaware County, Pennsylvania on Monday morning, resulting in five individuals being hospitalized and a gas line being damaged, according to authorities. The specific area affected is Chester Pike between Huron and Summit avenues, as confirmed by law enforcement. Chief Dave Madonna of the Prospect Park Police mentioned that the road closure at this location is anticipated to be resolved in the next few hours. Emergency services were dispatched to the vicinity of Chester Pike near Summit Avenue at approximately 10 a.m. due to reports of a significant collision. While the conditions of the injured individuals remain unknown, Chief Madonna emphasized that such a large impact is likely to have caused severe injuries. Though authorities have not disclosed the exact circumstances leading to the accident, initial assessments indicate that reckless driving may have contributed to the incident. Aerial footage from Chopper 3 illustrated extensive damage and debris along Chester Pike, showing a black car extensively damaged and a white SUV colliding with two parked vehicles. Another black vehicle was overturned in front of a nearby structure, following the collision. Chief Madonna stated that one of the vehicles involved in the crash struck a building, resulting in a gas line rupture. The ensuing gas leak was described as "significant" and necessitated immediate attention from the Prospect Park Fire Department. Consequently, numerous businesses, including Rem De Trendy Fashion, were forced to close for the day due to the accident. The proprietor of Rem De Trendy Fashion recounted discovering her store cordoned off by police tape upon arrival, necessitating closure for the day. Chief Madonna highlighted the community-wide impact of the road closures on local businesses and schools.
