Semi-truck accident shuts down I-696 near I-75.

A semi-truck crash on I-696 at 11 Mile caused the closure of the freeway in both directions on Thursday morning. By 6:30 a.m., the right lane westbound was open for traffic to slowly pass the site, as reported by MDOT. The eastbound freeway is closed from Couzens to Mound due to the crash at the Dequindre curve. Hazmat cleanup is in progress due to a fuel spill across all lanes from the accident. Michigan State Police mentioned that both tanks of the truck, carrying about 300 gallons of fuel, are leaking. The heavy rain also caused damage to the barrier wall at the scene, adding to the cleanup efforts. MDOT spokesperson stated that crews are working on crash cleanup, fixing the barrier wall, and managing the hazmat cleanup. Stay updated with FOX 2 for further developments.
