Semi truck accident ignites fire on I-275 near I-4; 1 hospitalized: FHP
A man from Texas was hospitalized on Wednesday after a dramatic crash involving a semi-truck on I-4 at the I-275 junction in Tampa. According to officials, the semi-truck, which was empty, was traveling westbound on I-4, but the driver experienced a medical emergency as the vehicle approached the downtown exit ramp for Ashley Street. As a result, the 61-year-old Texas man lost control of the semi, causing it to collide with the guardrail and wall before catching fire on the overpass atop I-275. Fortunately, the driver is now in stable condition. Due to the fire, damage to the overpass, and diesel fuel spillage on I-275, the northbound lanes of I-275 are closed until further notice. Traffic is being rerouted accordingly, with northbound I-275 being diverted onto I-4's eastbound lanes, and westbound I-4 traffic redirected to northbound I-275 lanes. Although the southbound lanes of I-275 were initially closed, authorities have confirmed that they have since been reopened.
