A tragic accident occurred early Thursday morning on U.S. 69 in Johnson County, resulting in the death of one man and serious injuries to another after their semi truck crashed and overturned. The incident, reported at around 7:20 a.m. near 207th Street, involved the semi truck veering off the road, hitting a bridge rail, and eventually flipping in the median, partially blocking southbound lanes. The driver, identified as 48-year-old Eugene Merrell from Tonganoxie, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 28-year-old passenger was transported to the hospital. Investigations continued, leading to the closure of southbound lanes into the afternoon, with one northbound lane reopened after several hours.
