Second driver convicted for role in accident that resulted in the death of student Samantha Kalkbrenner
A man who authorities say was competing in a race with another driver on a bridge that led to a tragic school van accident in Dravosburg nearly two years ago has been sentenced to serve up to 4.5 years in prison. In a statement from District Attorney Zappala, Andrew Voigt will be serving 16 to 54 months in prison for his involvement in the fatal crash that claimed the life of 15-year-old Samantha Kalkbrenner, a student at Serra Catholic High School. The incident occurred around 7:25 a.m. on Sept. 20, 2023, near the intersection of Richland Avenue and 3rd Street in Dravosburg. Along with Kalkbrenner, three other students and the van driver were also taken to the hospital following the crash. Voigt and another individual, William Soliday, faced charges several months after the incident, as they were said to be racing one another at the time of the accident. Voigt was convicted during a trial without a jury in May of this year on multiple counts, including reckless driving and recklessly endangering another individual. Soliday entered a guilty plea in April 2025 to third-degree murder for his role in striking the school van. He was sentenced to serve five to 12 years in prison.
