Search ongoing after chase in Harris County leads to lake crash near US-290 in Waller County

A pursuit by Harris County deputies of a suspect in a potentially stolen vehicle concluded when the vehicle crashed into a body of water. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared that the chase commenced after reports of a stolen vehicle that did not stop at Barker Cypress and US-290. The pursuit extended into Waller County where measures were taken by the Waller County Sheriff's Office to halt the vehicle. The vehicle veered off the 290 main lanes and into a lake near James Muse Parkway. Assistant Chief John Nanny mentioned uncertainty about whether the driver intentionally drove off the road. As of now, authorities believe the driver has managed to elude capture. The vehicle submerged in the water, and there is no indication that anyone inside made it out. Search efforts are ongoing in the area with support from the HCSO Dive Team. The James Muse Parkway exit at 290 is presently closed, and it remains unknown how many occupants were in the vehicle.
