
Search for three individuals on plane after crashing near Pacific Grove.
A joint effort is currently underway off the coast of Pacific Grove in response to a confirmed private plane crash. The Coast Guard has reported that three individuals were onboard the plane, and a search operation is currently in progress. Flares have been deployed in the vicinity of the crash site, as shown in the video above. Various agencies including the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, Pacific Grove Police, the Coast Guard, and CAL FIRE are all involved in the response near Asilomar. Sunset Drive is closed in the area between Jewell Avenue and Pico Avenue. According to Flight Radar, a Beech 95-B55 Baron, identified as Flight N8796R, departed from San Carlos Airport and crashed into the ocean near Sunset Drive and Jewell Avenue. Emergency responders were alerted after receiving a lost radar signal and 911 calls from residents. Witnesses reported hearing the sound of an aircraft engine and a subsequent splash in the ocean. CAL FIRE believes the crash site may be located anywhere from 200 meters to a quarter mile offshore. Debris from the aircraft has been observed washing up on the shoreline. The Community Emergency Response Team is on site awaiting the arrival of the National Transportation Safety Board. The debris will be left at the beach until the NTSB completes their investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
