Safety warning issued after 7-year-old girl injured in fire pit accident in Twin Cities

Following the recent Fourth of July weekend, a mother in the Twin Cities has a cautionary tale for parents after her daughter was injured in a bonfire accident. Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis has treated 14 patients this year for campfire-related injuries, including 7-year-old Sage Anderson from Nowthen, Minnesota. Sage tripped and fell into a hot fire pit at her family's cabin in June, causing deep second-degree burns on her left arm. Her mother, Jamie Anderson, advises parents to treat fire with extreme caution, comparing its dangers to that of deep water or sharp tools. Hennepin Healthcare medical experts suggest immediate care with cold compresses and medicated creams like Neosporin for similar injuries. The Burn Clinic saw an increase in burn injuries over the weekend, including those related to fireworks, and urges everyone to prioritize safety during summer activities.
