Safety concerns raised after fatal accident on Friant Road
A recent incident in Fresno, California was captured by surveillance footage from Friant Roulette, showing a car speeding down Shepherd Avenue and crashing into a city yard near Woodward Park. This occurred at 2 a.m. at the intersection of Friant and Shepherd, with the vehicle flying into the air and hitting parked cars before bursting into flames. Sadly, the driver lost their life in the crash. The intersection has seen tragic accidents in the past, including one in 2023 that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Amaya Chenot when a tow truck ran a red light. A judge sentenced the responsible party, John Ashcroft, to six years in prison for multiple charges. Fresno City Councilmember Nick Richardson emphasized the need to address issues such as speeding, running red lights, and driving under the influence to enhance community safety. Richardson pledged to collaborate with law enforcement to improve safety measures at the intersection, ensuring that safety remains a top priority for the city.
