Runner from MSU Billings cross country team given citation following van accident

A member of the MSU Billings cross country team received a traffic violation citation in Washington state following a crash that resulted in one athlete being hospitalized with a brain injury. The incident involved Cecily Eagleton, 21, who was driving on State Route 127 near Dusty when she lost focus, causing her to swerve off the road and hit an embankment and driveway, as stated by the Washington State Patrol. The citation is for second-degree negligent driving, a traffic infraction that can result in a fine of up to $250 according to Washington state law and the state patrol. All six athletes in the van were injured in the crash, with two airlifted due to serious injuries. While five athletes have been discharged, one remains in a Spokane-area hospital with a brain injury and is expected to undergo surgery. The team was accompanied by two other vans and an SUV at the time of the accident. Despite this challenging situation, MSU Billings intends to proceed with hosting their invitational meet on Friday.
