
Route 8 South closed in Naugatuck as serious injuries reported after crash
NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH) — A person sustained fatal injuries following a crash on Route 8 South in Naugatuck on Thursday. According to state police, at approximately 1:55 p.m. a Mercedes-Benz being driven by 44-year-old Jimmy Bedard of Wolcott was stopped on the right shoulder and facing north after being involved in a prior crash. A Ford F450 Super Duty owned by One Source Towing & Repair of East Haven and operated by Antonio Marquis Smith was traveling down the left lane, approaching the previous collision scene. Smith lost control of the vehicle, and collided with the concrete median barrier, along with the Mercedes, Bedard, and a female pedestrian. Bedard suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to Waterbury Hospital with suspected minor injuries. The crash closed Route 8 south for over five hours Thursday afternoon. This case remains under investigation.
