Rotterdam man admits he ran red light drunk, causing fatal Everett Road crash
A Rotterdam man admitted in court that he was driving drunk when he ran a red light and caused a crash that killed another driver on Everett Road in Albany last year. Matthew Merriman, 30, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide Wednesday before Judge Roger McDonough. The crash happened Sept. 30 at about 5:45 p.m. Albany police responded to Everett Road near the I-90 exit ramp after reports of a crash and found Matthew Mardon, 34, who died at the scene of the crash. Merriman, traveling northbound on Everett Road, ran a red light and caused the crash. Merriman is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 21 and faces a state prison sentence of six and two-thirds to 20 years.
