Road near Standish elementary school closed due to crash
A tragic incident occurred in Standish on Tuesday morning when a student was fatally injured in a school bus accident. The crash took place around 7:30 a.m. on Route 35, leading to a road closure between Route 114 and Moody Road near Edna Libby Elementary School in the Bonny Eagle School District. The superintendent, Clay Gleason, confirmed that the accident involved a student and a bus. Unfortunately, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office also confirmed the student's death, with the family notified. Authorities have not disclosed the student's age or gender, nor the particulars of the accident. Only one student was on board, the half-brother of the injured student. The road closure is expected to remain in place for an extended period while investigations continue; Maine State Police are also involved in the process. As of now, the impact on school activities remains uncertain.
