Richmond man blamed for causing serious crash by driving in wrong direction in Smithfield

In Smithfield, Utah, Brock Johnny Harris, a man from Richmond, has been accused of causing a serious vehicle crash that resulted in near-fatal injuries to a passenger. Police allege that Harris was driving in the wrong lanes when the crash happened and then fled the scene before crashing a second time. Harris, 31, is facing charges related to negligent driving, leaving the scene of a serious accident, driving with a suspended license, and failing to signal. Court records indicate that on Aug. 16, 2025, Harris was seen driving on the wrong side of the road in Smithfield, going north in the southbound lanes for approximately six blocks until colliding with an oncoming vehicle. Following the initial crash, Harris continued driving northward until he eventually crashed into a fire hydrant, causing his vehicle to overturn. A police officer witnessed Harris fleeing the scene and found him disoriented and unable to comprehend instructions. Harris disclosed to officers that he had used marijuana for medical reasons before the accidents. Presently, Harris is in custody at the Cache County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings following his recent court appearance.
