The pursuit began on the beach near mile marker 35 when a police officer attempted to stop the speeding vehicle. Students from Port Aransas High School described the apprehension of the individuals in the car, and one person was found carrying weapons, drugs, and cash in a backpack. Searcy expressed the town's firm stance against such criminal activity and emphasized that Port Aransas would not tolerate it. Tyler Ellis, the driver, was treated for injuries, arrested, and charged with various offenses.
