Rescue operation after canoeing mishap in northern New Mexico

A recently released video by New Mexico Game and Fish captures a vital rescue in northern New Mexico where three individuals from Louisiana encountered trouble while canoeing on the Canadian River. The incident, which occurred over five miles south of Taylor Springs near Springer on May 16, involved the canoes capsizing. A New Mexico Game and Fish officer was the first responder and found the men critically injured along the riverbank. One of the individuals sustained serious injuries, including six broken ribs and a punctured lung. It took nearly two hours for rescue teams to arrive, and they faced challenges navigating a treacherous 250-foot drop into the remote canyon to reach the stranded men. Thanks to their efforts, the group was successfully rescued after approximately five hours, with the most severely injured individual being airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital for treatment. The man is currently recuperating from his injuries. Another canoeer with a broken leg was safely evacuated from the canyon, while the third managed to walk out on his own.
