Rescue Efforts in Clearwater Ferry Crash

In a recent incident near the Memorial Causeway Bridge, Clearwater firefighters were having dinner at their station when they were alerted about a collision between a recreational boat and the Clearwater Ferry. Lieutenant Jason Haynor from Clearwater Fire and Rescue described the scene as significant and chaotic, with multiple injured individuals. The responders waded through waist-deep water to reach the ferry due to low tide. Clearwater fire medic Nathan Vasquez also shared his experience of triaging and treating injured passengers on the ferry. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the death of Jose Castro and injuries to 10 others among the 40+ passengers on board. The quick and coordinated effort of emergency responders was pivotal in managing the situation. The operator of the recreational boat, Jeffry Knight, denied allegations of leaving the scene in a letter from his attorney. Knight has stepped down from his position at Jannus Live following the tragic incident. This teamwork and dedication exemplify the importance of proper training and readiness in handling emergency situations effectively.
